PACIFIC OCEAN (June 30, 2012) The Department of the Navy's Floating Instrument Platform (FLIP) begins the process of transitioning from horizontal to vertical by filling ballast tanks in the stern during a cruise commemorating 50 years of continuous service to the scientific community. The 335-foot research vessel, owned by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and operated by the Marine Physical Laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, conducts investigations in a number of fields, including acoustics, oceanography, meteorology and marine mammal observation. What is the point of this, seams like whatever purpose it serves (if any) can easily be done up right as well... This is stupid, can't fucking believe I sit here and bust my ass daily for my $ to go towards stuff like this instead of other stuff like NASA and Schools who are forced to over charge tuition b/c all the $ is going towards stupid fucking flipping ships that are meant to just show off useless skills... As someone who pays my taxes, I want to have full control over where some of my $ goes to, b/c this is just ridiculous
